Job Description Summary
As a Product Owner in the CDS Lab, you will have the opportunity and responsibility to engage and collaborate with those stakeholders giving you a truly cross-Divisional perspective on Group Data change roadmaps and strategy.
The CDS Lab resides in the Data & Machine Learning Platform (D&ML). We provide and maintain all the personal and non-personal Customer party Data for the Bank. There are ~40 million+ customer records on our customer applications and we thereby provide a critical enabling service to the Group as we support ~14+ Critical Business Processes across the Bank from logon to payments.
We are currently on a journey to progressively modernise our Customer Data technology estate and are building out our public cloud technologies and capabilities, which is the new Customer Data Platform. This will be the strategic customer Group data solution and asset for the Bank that will used by all divisions and cross-functional areas. This new platform is being built on public cloud technology and will involve several modern technology components including inbound data streaming services, a new customer database, new system of insight as well as customer APIs and outbound streaming services. The platform will also need the ability to stream data from on -prem systems and applications. A key offering from this new platform will be Customer Data Products and Analytical Customer Data Products to the different divisions across the Group.

What You’ll Do
- Work together with your Lead Engineering counterpart in a 'two-in-a-box' model to jointly lead the product team providing a great value proposition to your stakeholders from across the company.
- Lead agile multi-disciplinary teams by blending both deep domain and technical expertise across a number of component and feature teams who build, deploy, and maintain capabilities and services enabling earlier value release for our customers.
- Within the framing of a reference architecture and strategy, work with business areas and engineering to set the product direction and roadmap for the product and services.
- Engage with senior business leaders to understand long-term strategic data challenges.
- Meet the needs of customers related to a range of products and services, defining Business Value Goals that resonate with your data stakeholders.
- Articulate a Product Vision and Roadmap to take your stakeholders on the journey.
- Be an advocate for the client within the Lab working in a cross-disciplinary team, delivering exciting customer driven solutions and high-quality software.
- Work alongside multiple divisions in an agile environment dealing with backlogs and delivering use cases for the various business units as well as working on software orientated products/projects.
- Continuously show and prove the value of the team’s outcomes.
- Take responsibility to formally grow capabilities within the data business, while personally investing in the growth of own and others' capabilities elsewhere in the organisation through mentoring and other informal methods.
- Take responsibility for developing and delivering change management plans and achieving outcomes that support the organisation's overall strategy.
- Be part of the broader Data & Machine Learning product owner community driving and supporting initiatives
- Hire and grow delivery talent as well as coaching and mentoring colleagues to enable them to reach their full potential.
- Play a key role in the transformation of data and its migration from legacy to Google cloud.
About You – Must Have (Red)
- Have a passion for Customer Data and our abilities to provide a single source of truth for Customer Data to the entire Group.
- Have an interest in and ideally experience in shaping and defining Data Products for insights and analytics
- Strength in collaboration as Data & Machine Learning Platform requires its Labs and Programmes to collaborate in building end-to-end Data products and services across LBG; so, collaboration needs to be a key part of your DNA.
- A Strategic thinker when defining a product vision and direction in the delivery of a complete product experience from initiation to implementation and support.
- An experienced product owner, able to inspire and encourage the best from their teams, who can relate to our customer’s challenges and translate their emotions into real solutions.
- Expertise in product ownership and management, proto-typing, building, deploying, and maintaining large scale data solutions.
- Ability to lead a team aligning them toward common goals with conviction, compassion, and diplomacy.
- Ability to communicate, translate and present critical information to multi-skilled people and teams at different levels in the organisation, understanding their differing needs.
- A researcher who has a deep understanding of their customers and market with the ability to untangle and interpret the wealth of information into meaningful strategies.
- Data domain skills and an understanding of the technology behind your product as well as understanding how it is built and that entails methodologies, processes and tools used to create efficient teams and agile delivery.
- Strength in financial management so that you can operate as an accountant for your product.
- Co-ordination and management skills to ensure you have a handle on the endless list of tasks, dependencies, risks, and milestones.
- Able to show capability to change, evolve and to learn new tools and techniques and help and encourage others to do likewise.
- Knowledge about and experience working with APIs, Cloud Technologies would be beneficial – Google Cloud Platform – Big Query, KAFKA Real-Time Data Streaming, Elastic Search etc.
- Ability to lead multi-disciplinary, mixed, geographically distributed teams across the project lifecycle.
