Impact & Contribution

This role is part of Real Time Payments & PaaS Crew, whose purpose is to lead in providing innovative, safe and reliable real time payments and payment services capabilities that deliver value for our customers. 
The PO will collaborate with other Value-chain and Product Squads in the Crew, other Crews across the Group and business stakeholders to define the long and short-term priorities that will ensure we achieve our strategic ambitions. They will also engage with customers to ensure that product outcomes meet customer desirability, viability and feasibility.
The PO will lead the Squad day-to-day to deliver change and lifecycle activities. They will drive a quarterly prioritisation process for their squad, manage a backlog of initiatives and define metrics and outcomes that align to our strategy. The PO is accountable for leading the squad in the delivery of the prioritised initiatives.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for end-to-end value delivery and product lifecycle management (including managing requirements lifecycle, production deployment and release day coordination and sign off). Works with the squad and the crew to determine who is best to perform change request and delivery framework related administrative tasks.

  • Act as the voice of the customer and business and translate this for the squad.

  • Apply expertise to support prioritisation, balance trade-offs, and explore strategies to successfully achieve business and customer outcomes.

  • Accountable for addressing impediments, driving decisions and resolving escalations.

  • Drive product exploration (e.g. using design thinking and analytics) and formulate hypotheses to validate product strategy / design.

  • Ensure all obligations across customer, regulatory, internal policy and process frameworks (e.g. GDF, PDDP, RiC) are fully met and satisfied.

  • Identify, articulate and manage risks, dependencies and compliance across streams of work e.g. customer propositions.

  • Maintain a healthy and prioritised backlog to deliver business and customer outcomes.

  • Manage senior business and technical stakeholders to ensure that prioritisation is understood and agreed to.

  • Manage the squad’s performance to defined objectives including OKR tracking, etc.

  • Role model continuous improvement and customer focus.

  • Drive squad effectiveness and agile maturity i.e. sprint burn down, release burn up, and squad/team health in partnership with Agile Coaches and Performance Leads.

  • Build and foster strong relationships within the Crew and across the product value chain, including frontline teams, operations, risk, compliance and finance to ensure efficient delivery of strategic initiatives and resolution of issues.

Essential Skills

  • 14+ years of industry experience. Proven Product Owner experience.

  • Prior experience as a Product Manager/Programme Manager/Project Manager would also be considered.

  • Payments Domain experience and knowledge, DE and/or NPP ideal.

  • Manage Management and Direct Debit Payment Initiation (not specifically paper based direct debits but in a generic payment type sense).

  • Are experienced in developing a Product Vision and the Product Roadmap to implement it.

  • Are strong communicators, both Verbal and Written, with proven experience managing multiple stakeholders (including senior LT).

  • Experience with Agile methodology.

  • Experience working within a mixed onshore /offshore squad would be ideal.

  • Have experience managing Risks and Product Compliance and using formal documentation methods.

  • Communicating and collaborating with BB/IB&M customers and customer relationship colleagues.

  • Strategic and commercial experience desirable.

  • Experience communicating with industry and regulatory bodies desirable.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree/master’s degree in engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology or any similar stream
